An iconic destination that transforms the cityscape through multi-leveled plateaus and stunning rock formations.

ETAPA Square is a state-of-the-art business, commercial, and entertainment complex situated in the prestigious El Sheikh Zayed City. It is an important landmark that encapsulates Egypt’s vision of a prosperous, dynamic, and cosmopolitan city. 

The goal of this project is to revive the innovative building practices and techniques of Ancient Egypt, by demonstrating the practicality of utilizing ancient plateaus within a modern context. To achieve this, the architectural design employs the use of monolithic rock formations that have been fractured in an irregular pattern, resulting in the creation of a distinguishable and iconic landmark in the city of Sheikh Zayed. 

ETAPA Square’s architectural language is driven the natural terrain and topography of the land, the project is built on multi-leveled plateaus which presents a unique opportunity to create a visually stunning and functional design that is in harmony with the natural environment using a combination of irregular, stepped plateaus interconnected by angular paths that mimic the fissures and crevices of mountain rock formations. 

The buildings’ form represents the idea of a boulder that has been broken into pieces, with each piece serving a different function. Each plateau is designated for different uses such as housing, retail, and hospitality, with the goal of creating a self-sufficient environment where residents can live, work, and socialize within the complex.
