Design Vision:
City Global vision:
The attractive location of Port Said City and it declared to become a free tax zone, these attracted a lot of tourists to visit the city as many large touristic ships visit Port Said to spend a day in the city before going on with their journey to the ports of the Mediterranean Sea.
Port Said is an important harbor for exports of Egyptian products and has a futuristic vision for seeking to be one of the most important commercial ports all over the world.
Port Said has been ranked the second among the Egyptian cities according to the Human Development Index in 2009 and 2010. It thrives on being a duty-free port, as well as a tourist resort especially during summer, and also a fueling station for ships that pass through the Suez Canal.
Evolution of the old city center:
The new urban planning economic culture development of Port Said not only interacts with European and Islamic architectural characteristics but it also illustrates the story of this development within unique architectural styles, and there is a need to develop new design linkages with the past and at the same time relevant to the present. From the classification of the city’s architectural styles and the case study analysis, we will notice common-design features found in the historic urban fabrics, and could be as a source of inspiration.
This development will based on two main approaches, the first one is simulating the new high building construction of the new Port Said city, & the second is imitating the evolution of the old city centers.
Multi culture history of the city:
– Multi Activities for the city: The integration of socializing, commercial, residential dimensions represents an integrated approach toward successful conservation. The social dimension of sustainable development stresses the need to improve the quality of life for all residents. This dimension is most relevant to the need to consider built heritage as a part of sustainable development.
– Diversity of benefits layers: The project will help to the improve and refresh the tourist and trading movement in the city of Port Said
Architecture Identity :
Moral Approach:
The coming of Multi Communities to Port Said City like France, Britain, Greek community to work in the digging of the Suez Canal which substantially reduced the sailing distances and times between Europe and east Asia and started the market establish in the city, Italian community worked in the hotels, bars restaurants, and sweet shops, Britain communities owned shipping companies and operated banking services and the Turkey community for living.
Port Said City Center’s design identity is quite literally influenced by reviving the Multi layers of the city’s rich and Multi historical layers that passed by Port Said City that had an impact on the City’s nation refreshment and buildings, through importing the multi cultures, multi activities from the coming ships which were loaded with multi communities and people.
The loaded ships with multi benefits arrive accompanied with water rippling multi layers to the stagnant water, causing multi feelings of cheering and refreshment due to the revival that happened to the surrounding till it reach the peak of stability and satisfaction.
So that the Architectural Identity of Port Said City Center based on the multi layers concept due to the merging of Port Said historical City layers and the water rippling multi layers to achieve a developed innovative multi layered identity.
Physical Approach:
“Five principles define the project: layers and terraces, inside and outside, vegetation, views and privacy, light and identity,” it added. “The result is a layered building: slabs of varying sizes allow for interplay between openness and privacy that fosters flexible living between inside and outside.”
The vertical Gardens add touches of greenery to the otherwise white block, which is envisioned as a vertical boulevard. The planting also serves as a screen, to ensure a degree of privacy for the glazed living areas while still permitting views out to sea.
The idea of Roof Garden that connects the residential high-rise to its surroundings is taken up by the design and continued vertically both inside and outside the building,” they added. “Indoor and outdoor spaces merge into each other so that the generous terraces truly become living spaces.”
The idea of multiple layers which integrated with vertical and roof garden meant to blur the boundaries between architecture and landscape.
So that Port Said City Center concept inspired from the concept of “Green Waves” due to merging the public realm through organic frontages and landscape features, and the water rippling layers making it a one of the cities destination.
